Déjà vu: Peasley ties USA South single-game goal record in women’s lacrosse victory over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-4 road victory over Randolph College aided by senior Elizabeth Peasley's third career game with 12-plus goals.

Randolph (0-1) struck for the first blow of Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference versus USA South Conference showdown to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.

However, Averett (2-0) rattled off six unanswered goals, four off the stick of Peasley and two from junior Adriana Perez to take a 6-1 lead.

The Wildcats answered with their second score with 10:28 minutes remaining, but the Cougars ended the opening half on 7-0 scoring run as Perez tied a career-high with her third goal of the half, before Peasley tallied five straight goals and Perez bested her career-high of three with her fourth goal with 1:49 remaining to give Averett a 13-2 edge at halftime.

The Cougars followed a strong opening half with a 3-0 run to begin the second half as junior Courtney DeLone netted three straight goals before Randolph answered with their third goal of the game.

Averett ended its afternoon on a 4-2 scoring run as Peasley accounted for the Cougars remaining four scores to control a 20-4 victory.

Peasley finished the afternoon with 13 goals on 14 attempts as the Cougars scored on 20 of their 30 team shot attempts.

DeLone ended with three goals and two assists to lead the Cougars, while Peasley and Perez each added goals and freshman Irenia Torre collected her first career assist.

Additionally Peasley's 14-point output tied her previous mark set against Sweet Briar College to open the year and equaled junior Hannah Mae Ayer's USA South single-game mark.

Junior Emily Eby accounted for six saves in net for the Cougars, while Peasley controlled a game-high four ground balls and six draw controls.

Perez finished Saturday's matchup with five draw controls of her own, while sophomore Raven Felder added four draw controls and sophomore Morgan Dearing tallied a game-high four forced turnovers.

The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they take on the University of Lynchburg on the road at 4 p.m.
