FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University men's basketball used another distributed team effort to hold off Methodist University 60-56 on Tuesday afternoon in USA South Conference action.
Averett (5-4, 5-3 USA South) earned its second win in a row and its fifth victory over the last six games by fending off Methodist (5-4, 5-3 USA South) in the final minutes. The Cougars, who led 54-42 with just over six minutes to play, maintained at least a two-possession lead the rest of the way. Senior
Montre' Cash, who had a team-high 12 points, hit two free throws with 11 seconds to play to help seal the win for the Cougars.
Averett never trailed at any point in the game. Although the Cougars didn't shoot at a high percentage, they made up for it by attacking the offensive glass and getting 18 second-chance points. Meanwhile, Averett's defense forced 17 Methodist turnovers.

The Cougars also got a double-double from redshirt junior
Isaiah Jones, who had 11 points and 11 rebounds to go with five steals. Senior
Raymond Bullock III and sophomore
Bryson McLaughlin each added eight points, with McLaughlin grabbing seven rebounds and making three steals.

Averett continues play on Wednesday when the Cougars return to the Grant Center for their regular season home finale against Pfeiffer University at 4:30 p.m.
