Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Junior Erik Blick powered home the game-winning goal in Averett University men's soccer's 1-0 road victory over Methodist University in USA South Conference action on Sunday.

Blick broke Sunday's first half stalemate with his second goal of the season in the 62nd minute, benefitting from a Methodist miscue, when the Monarchs committed a foul outside of the 18-yard box that gave the junior a free kick opportunity that he blasted high into the right side of the Methodist net for the lead.

Averett (3-0, 2-0 USA South) withstood a Methodist barrage over the final 25 minutes, but a four save afternoon from senior Colton Dutchess and strong defensive pressure helped preserve the 1-0 victory for the Cougars.

Methodist (0-3, 0-3 USA South) put up 16 shots on the afternoon with four of those landing on frame, while Averett added 11 total shot attempts and landed three on goal, with Blick's net finder proving to be the difference.

The Cougars are off to one of their best starts in program history and have improved to 3-0 on the year for the first time since the 1986 season.

Averett returns back to the pitch on Friday with it hosts William Peace University on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium in USA South action.
