DANVILLE, Va.  — The Averett University women's basketball program extended its winning streak to four games and completed the series sweep of Pfeiffer University with a 62-43 conference victory Monday night in the Grant Center. Genesis Weiters' double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Averett (4-4, 4-4 USA South) went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter to gain an early advantage but quickly saw that lead disintegrate. Pfeiffer (2-2, 2-2 USA South) matched that run with a 15-3 run of its own, forcing seven turnovers during that span while taking a 19-15 advantage into the second quarter.
In the second quarter of play, the Cougars held the Falcons to only three points and regained the lead after junior
Camryn Lunsford's basket and ensuing free throw with 6:26 left in the quarter. Lunsford matched her career-high in rebounds with nine and added 14 points. Averett headed ino the half with an 11-point advantage and never looked back.
With Averett up 47-34 through the third quarter, Pfeiffer got within 12 points of the Cougars with 4:30 left to play but a 3-pointer from junior
Rana Davis-Robinson pushed the lead back to 15 and help seal the victory for Averett. Davis-Robinson had seven points and five rebounds.
Averett was also led by freshman
Natija Pate, who set a career high in points with eight, shooting 80 percent from the field. Junior
Courtney Hunt added 11 points and four rebounds.
Pfeiffer was led by A'Mya McClain, who had 14 points.
Averett returns to action on Friday night when it travels to N.C. Wesleyan College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
