RALEIGH, N.C. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team dropped its USA South Conference opener to Meredith College 24-1 on the road Saturday.
Meredith (2-1, 1-0 USA South) opened Saturday's contest on a 2-0 scoring run in the opening five minutes of action.
Averett (2-4, 0-1 USA South) struck for it's lone goal on the afternoon to cut into the Avenging Angles 2-0 deficit at 2-1. However, Meredith fired in two quick goals to extend its advantage to 4-2 and added 12 more goals over the final 24 minutes in the first half to take a commanding 16-1 lead.
The Avenging Angels finished the second half on an 8-0 scoring run to pick up a 24-1 USA South opening victory.

Elizabeth Peasley recorded the remaining shots for the Cougars.

Kaylee Joblon got the start in goal for the Cougars and finished with a game-high nine saves.
Averett returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Methodist University on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m.
