DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball swept a doubleheader against Greensboro College on Saturday at the Grant Center. The Cougars won the USA South Conference match 3-0, then won the non-conference match 3-0 as well.
In the opener, which counted toward conference play, Averett had little trouble against previously unbeaten Greensboro. The Cougars won in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-18. The Cougars hit .276 as a team as sophomore
Lauren Montren led the way with 11 kills and 12 digs, while junior
Sarah Shropshire and sophomore
Morgan Barnes each totaled eight kills. Senior
McKenzie Miller's 32 assists and freshman
Erin Gray's 10 digs also helped the Cougars pick up their 15th consecutive win over the Pride.
The Cougars made it 16 in a row against Greensboro by finishing the afternoon with another sweep of the Pride. Averett won 25-14, 25-19 and 25-19. Montren added 10 kills and 14 digs for her second double-double of the day, and freshman
Emma Nash came in and gave the Cougars nine kills as Averett hit .302 in the match. Miller added 36 assists and 13 digs for Averett, which played 16 different players in the final match of the day.
After easing past Greensboro through the first two sets, Averett got off to a slow start in Set 3 before powering back to take the lead and the game.
Averett returns to action on Thursday when the Cougars travel to the University of Lynchburg.
