MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Freshman
Alexander Soerensen struck for the game-winning goal in the final minutes of Averett University men's soccer's 3-2 victory over Pfeiffer University on Saturday in USA South Conference Action.
Pfeiffer (2-4, 2-3 USA South) took a 1-0 advantage in Saturday's conference tilt with a goal in the 12th minute.
Averett (4-2, 3-2 USA South) tied the contest 1-1 with a goal in the 25th minute when Junior
Erik Blick tallied his team leading third goal of the year off an assist from fellow junior
Lluc Pou Busquet.
The Cougars and Falcons took the 1-1 tie into the half, but Averett netted wasted no time taking a 2-1 advantage in the 48th minute of the second half when junior
Baste Endresen scored off an assist from junior
Johnny Kummander for the lead.
The Falcons tied the game 2-2 in the 75th minute and it looked the match would be sent to overtime until Soerensen netted the game winner with just over three minutes remaining for his first collegiate goal off Kummander's second assist of the evening.
Averett and Pfeiffer finished the contest with 15 shots apiece with the Cougars landing seven shots on frame.
Senior
Colton Dutchess earned the victory in net for Averett following a three save afternoon to help the Cougars improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Cougars return back to the pitch on March 28 when they host Mary Baldwin University at 2 p.m. for their regular season finale.
