DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's soccer team battled Mary Baldwin University to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in USA South Conference action after the game was called in the first overtime period due to inclement weather.
Averett (4-2-1, 4-2-1 USA South) struck for the first goal in Saturday's conference clash in the 58th minute when junior
Kellen Fees split two Mary Baldwin defenders and fired a shot to the far right of the goal for his first goal on the year and a 1-0 Cougars advantage.
Mary Baldwin (0-4-2, 0-4-2 USA South) evened the game 1-1 in the 78th minute following a free kick strike.
The Cougars and Fighting Squirrels began the first overtime period, but inclement weather halted the game just over a minute into the period and resulted in a 1-1 tie.
Freshman
Agustin Jaraba paced the Cougars with five shots, while fellow freshman
Alexander Soerensen talled four shots and two shots on frame and junior
Johnny Kummander landed all three of his shot attempts on target.
Averett finished with a 22-14 shot advantage with 10 shots on goal, while both team combined for five yellow cards and one red card.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for their regular-season finale against Liberty University at 6 p.m.
