FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University volleyball made quick work of conference foe Methodist University, beating the Monarchs 3-0 Tuesday night for the Cougars' fifth consecutive win. Averett won 25-15, 25-19 and 25-14 to remain unbeaten in USA South Conference play.
Averett (7-2, 4-0 USA South) trailed 8-7 in the opening set before finishing the frame in dominating fashion by winning 18 of the next 25 points to take Set 1. Methodist (1-4, 1-3 USA South) stayed close in Set 2, but with the score tied 17-17, Averett again pulled away late by winning eight of the last 10 points to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Cougars put together several long scoring runs to finish off Methodist in three sets for a conference road win.

Lauren Montren hit .419 while putting down a team-high 16 kills with nine digs and two blocks. Two Cougars registered double-doubles as senior
McKenzie Miller made 34 assists with 10 digs and junior
Sarah Shropshire had 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman
Erin Gray and senior
Myka Patterson had 14 digs and 13 digs, respectively. Averett also got eight kills from freshman
Lanie Ouzts, who hit .467 from the middle position, and seven kills from freshman
Emma Nash.
Averett travels to non-conference foe Southern Virginia University on Thursday.
