Volleyball's five-match win streak snapped by Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Averett University volleyball had its five-match win streak halted with a 3-0 non-conference road loss to Southern Virginia University on Thursday evening. The Knights won 25-11, 25-18 and 25-14.

Averett (7-3), missing several starters, fell behind early in each of the three sets against Southern Virginia (5-1). Despite late runs in the final two frames, the Cougars couldn't overcome the deficits in time.

Freshman Emma Nash had six kills and junior Zamyiah Mangum had five kills to lead Averett's attach. Senior McKenzie Miller had 18 assists and freshman Erin Gray had a team-best 10 digs.

Averett returns to action on Saturday with a big conference matchup at home against William Peace University.
