DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis program earned a non-conference victory 9-0 over Bluefield College on Thursday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (4-2, 1-0 USA South) battled an early rain delay but was able to take the match in dominant fashion by winning each singles match in straight sets.
At No. 1 singles, senior
Louise Hovhammar won 6-0, 6-1, which was the clinching win for the Cougars. Senior
Eleanor Crane, junior
Inka Zeilstra, and freshman
Paula Ryhsen all won in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles, respectively.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore
Alejandra Garcia earned a victory winning 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out singles play, sophomore
Nakia-Lee Goodall won her No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-0.
Averett also dominated doubles taking every match. In No. 1 doubles, Hovhammar and Crane earned a 8-3 victory which was the closest doubles match of the day. At No. 2 doubles, Zeilstra and Goodall rolled to a 8-1 victory while Ryhsen and Garcia also earned a 8-1 victory at the No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars are back in action when they host Methodist University for a conference match Sunday at 1 p.m.
