ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Averett University lost a pair of conference games at N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday. The Bishops won 2-1 and 4-0.
In the opener, N.C. Wesleyan (8-6, 4-0 USA South) jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth on Beth Braswell's two-run double. Averett (7-11, 3-3 USA South) answered with a leadoff solo homer by junior
Erin Rankin in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars couldn't get across the tying run.

Hannah Thompson each had two hits for the Cougars, who outhit N.C. Wesleyan 6-3 in the opening game of the doubleheader.
In Game 2, the Battling Bishops went ahead in the bottom of the second. Kayla Molivas' RBI triple to right field plated the first run, and she later scored on a sacrifice fly by Summer Phillips. N.C. Wesleyan added two more runs in the fifth on a throwing error.

Anna Coleman had two of Averett's four hits in the second game.
Averett returns to action on Saturday, April 3, when the Cougars face Meredith College.
