DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis team came away with a close 5-4 win at home against Virginia Wesleyan University at the Averett Tennis Courts on Sunday.

Averett (2-1) only saw one victory in doubles play which came from the No. 3 doubles pairing of freshman Paula Ryhsen and sophomore Alejandra Garcia who won in dominate fashion 8-0.

In singles play, senior Louise Hovhammar secured the win for the Cougars at No. 1 singles winning 6-7,6-3, and 6-4, which was the last match of the day to finish. Ryhsen and Garcia also earned singles victories for the Cougars at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Sophomore Nakia-Lee Goodall earned a victory at the No. 6 singles winning 6-1 and 6-2.

Averett returns to action when it hosts Winston-Salem State University for a home match on Friday at 3 p.m.
