MURFREESBORO, N.C. — The Averett University men's tennis program cruised past Division II Chowan University 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Rose Family Tennis Complex.
At No. 2 singles, freshman
Rufus Nurminen won a tight match 3-6, 6-2, and 10-5. In No. 3 and No. 4 singles, freshman
Lasse Bonn and senior
Thomas Woodcock earned victories in straight sets. Freshman
Josh Bottrell and sophomore
Evgeniy Bogdasaryan earned wins 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, and No. 6 singles.
Chowan (1-14) earned their only point at No. 1 singles.
Averett (9-5) swept Chowan in doubles action to begin the day. Sophomore
Jorge Figueroa and Nurminen won their No. 1 doubles match 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Bonn and senior
Stan Martherus earned a 6-1 victory while Bottrell and Woodcock wrapped up the sweep at No. 3 doubles winning 6-0.
The Cougars are back in action when they travel to Roanoke College, Sunday, at 1:30 p.m.
