ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Averett University men's tennis team concluded its 2021 campaign falling 7-2 at North Carolina Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center in the East Division finals of the USA South conference tournament.
Averett (10-6, 4-1 USA South) saw its only conference loss come from N.C. Wesleyan (19-2, 5-0 USA South) whose only loses came to Division I programs.
Sophomore
Jorge Figueroa earned a victory at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. Freshman
Rufus Nurminen also won in his No. 2 singles slot, 6-3, 7-5.
The Cougars finished second in the East Division while having multiple players earn All-Conference honors. Figueroa earned First Team accolades and was named to the East Division First Team, along with Nurminen who made East Division First Team. Senior
Stan Martherus also earned recognition on the USA South Honorable Mention Team.
