ROME, Ga. — Averett University men's lacrosse freshman Liam Taylor was voted as the 2021 USA South Conference Rookie of the Year, which was announced Thursday as the league announced its annual awards.

Taylor, a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, set multiple records in his first season for the Cougars while playing attack. He scored a program single-season record 28 goals and totaled a program-best 37 points — both of which are also career records for the Cougars, who just completed their fourth season in the program's existence. Taylor also set single-game marks for goals and points. He started all 12 games he played in, earned USA South Rookie of the Week twice and was named to the USILA Team of the Week once.

Junior Mason Foy also earned recognition as Averett's representative on the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team. Foy, a native of Central Square, New York, played in all 13 games this season while scoring two goals with one assist.
