DANVILLE, Va. — Junior
Adriana Perez's career-high seven points pushes Averett University women's lacrosse past Methodist University 16-6 in USA South Conference action on Thursday.
Following a 17-minute scoreless drought to begin Thursday's conference dual, Perez broke the stalemate at the 12:58 mark with the first of her career-high five goals on the afternoon.
Junior
Courtney DeLone gave Averett (5-4, 3-1 USA South) a 2-0 lead when she scored off a Perez assist.
Methodist (3-5, 1-3 USA South) rallied with back-to-back goals to tie the contest at 2-2, but senior
Elizabeth Peasley put the Cougars up 3-2 with her first of seven goals in the game.
DeLone scored again with 1:44 remaining in the first half off an assist from junior
Hannah Mae Ayers to make it 4-2 heading in to the half.
Peasley and Perez combined for five goals to open the second half, with Peasley scoring four times to increase the deficit to 9-2 before the Monarchs broke the 7-0 scoring run.
Ayers, Perez and Peasley combined for the next three Averett scores to run the advantage to 12-3 before Methodist added two scores, broken up by a Perez goal to pull within 13-5 of the Cougars.
Freshman
Irenia Torre tallied her first collegiate goal in the victory at the 7:38 mark in the second half, while Peasley scored her team-leading 55th goal and Perez finished with her 18th net finder.
Both Peasley and Perez combined for 17 draw controls in the win, while both Peasley and DeLone scooped up a game-high four ground balls.
Senior
Haley Boardway forced a game-high four caused turnovers and freshman
Kaylee Joblon collected 10 saves.
The Cougars host Meredith College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in USA South play.
