MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Averett University volleyball defeated Pfeiffer University 3-1 in a non-conference meeting between conference foes on Thursday night. Averett (10-6) won 25-17, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-19.
The Cougars got off to a solid start, hitting .333 in the opening set against Pfeiffer (5-6). Averett was able to pull away in the first two sets easily. Although Averett dropped the third set, the Cougars rebounded with the win in Set 4 to clinch the match.
Sophomore
Morgan Barnes led the team with 12 kills and four blocks, with junior
Sarah Shropshire finishing with 10 kills and freshman
Lanie Ouzts adding nine kills. Senior
McKenzie Miller totaled 42 assists and freshman
Erin Gray had a team-high 13 digs.
Averett and Pfeiffer play again on Saturday on the Cougars' home court for a match that is the regular season finale that will count toward conference standings and play a role in the USA South Conference seeding for next week's USA South East Division Tournament.
