Alumnus Woodcock named assistant to men's, women's tennis programs

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University tennis head coach Bert Poole announced Tuesday the addition of alumnus Thomas Woodcock to the men's and women's programs as an assistant coach.

A native of Southampton, England, Woodcock was a four-year member of Averett's men's tennis program. During his playing days at Averett, the Cougars went 39-19 with an appearance in the USA South Conference East Division finals and two USA South Tournament semifinal appearances. Individually, Woodcock earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors, as well as ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete recognition.

Woodcock completed his bachelor's degree in clinical and counseling psychology, biological psychology and integrative health psychology in May 2021.

In addition to coaching, Woodcock will utilize his education in psychology by working with Averett's Sports Performance and Sports Medicine departments to ensure the physical and mental health of all student-athletes is being monitored. He also assists the Department of Athletics' program coordinator with student-athlete programing directly related to mental health and sport psychology.
