DANVILLE, Va.— The Averett University women's soccer team picked up its first draw of the season at home Sunday afternoon to Piedmont College 2-2 on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

Each team struggled to find their respective offensive games in the first few moments of the match, but in the 10th minute Piedmont (2-1-2) ramped up their attack and forced an Averett (1-1-1) defender to commit a miscue on the back line giving the Lions a early 1-0 lead.

It was not even a minute later before the Cougars were able to equalize after sophomore
Remy Vigouroux found freshman Celia de Diego for her fifth goal in just three games. Averett was able to gain a 2-1 lead before halftime after sophomore
Maiju Hyvarinen drilled a one touch goal in to the back of the net from freshman
Asia Williams.
In the 59th minute of play the Lions earned a corner kick, when the ball was played in it found the hand of a Cougar defender which resulted in a penalty kick. Katelyn Smith earned her first goal on the year for the Lions leveling the game 2-2.

Neither team could find the back of the net during the remaining time of regulation and the match entered overtime where also neither team could finish the afternoon with a golden goal.

The Cougars back in action Wednesday when they travel to Randolph College with kickoff is set for 7 p.m.Â
