GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Averett University men's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to Guilford College on the road Wednesday in non-conference action.
Guilford (4-1) struck for the eventual game-winning goal in the 14th minute, before adding an insurance goal midway through the second half to stave off a strong Cougars attack.
Averett (3-4) out shot the Quackers on the evening 16-11 with a 12-8 shot on goal advantage, however Guilford managed to make the most of their eight shots on frame to pick up their fourth straight victory.
Freshman
Moises Garcia nearly knotted the match at 1-1 just before halftime, breaking past the Quackers back line and firing a shot off the goal post that ricocheted back into play and just missed hitting the back of the net by a matter of inches.
Averett would have several other scoring opportunities throughout the match, but Guilford goaltender Roman Robinson accounted for 12 saves in the game to hold the Cougars attack in check.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they make the long trek to LaGrange, Georgia for a 5:30 p.m. matchup followed by a 2 p.m. ET showdown with Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday.
