DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory over rival Ferrum College on Friday in non-conference action.
Averett (1-1) didn't take long to score in Friday's clash, as senior Elik Blick made an excellent pass to the foot of sophomore
Rion Klaas that found the back of the Ferrum net from roughly 28-yards away for the 1-0 advantage.
The Cougars struck for their second goal of the first half in the 31st minute when sophomore
Agustin Jaraba pulled off an incredible goal, lifting a ball of his left foot near the right corner of the field and chipped it over the Panthers goaltender.
Ferrum (0-2) was limited to just one shot in the first half and only four for the game as sophomore
Tyler Yates and senior
Caleb Carpenter combined for the shutout.
Senior
Leevi Partanen put the Cougars in control with his first goal of the season in the 82nd minute slipping past Ferrum's back line before sneaking a ball underneath the goalkeeper.
The Cougars finished with a 21-4 shot advantage, landing nine shots on frame and controlling possession for the major of Friday's matchup.
Averett returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Piedmont University at 2 p.m. on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
