DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team dropped its home opener to non-conference foe Carroll University 8-1 Sunday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (1-1-0) saw its only goal come from freshman
Celia de Diego in the 85th minute, giving her four goals through two games. The Cougars were outscored 8-0 in the first half of play.
Carroll (2-0-0), located in Wisconsin, was able to put six more shots on goal then Averett throughout the game. In the first 10 minutes of play the Pioneers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.
Averett is back in action on Friday, Sept. 10, at 3 p.m. when it hosts Regent University.
