Nationally ranked Cougars cruise past Southern Virginia in wrestling dual

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Nationally ranked Averett University wrestling dominated Southern Virginia University 48-6 in a dual on Wednesday night.

Senior Sam Braswell continued his undefeated season with win by tech fall, 26-9, over Jaden Nelson at 125 pounds. Freshman Jesse Alvarado and freshman Khalil Mitchell also won by tech fall, with Alvarado winning 16-0 at 157 while Mitchell won 25-10 at 184.

At 149, freshman Gabe LaVey won by fall (1:47), while sophomore Alex Turley (1:05) and junior George Moseley (3:56) also won by fall at 165 and 174, respectively.

Freshman Mason Barrett won by decision at 133, while Averett also picked up wins by forfeit at 141 and 197.

In extra matches, senior David Shelton, junior Landon Childress and freshman Roman De La Cruz also picked up victories.

Averett is scheduled to host Ferrum College on Friday for Senior Night at 7 p.m.
