SALEM, Va. – Averett University men's soccer lost to Roanoke 5-1 on Wednesday night.
Roanoke (7-5-2) struck first in the ninth minute of play after Harrison Kraus scored to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead.
Roanoke tacked on two more insurance goals to lead the Cougars 3-0 at the half.
In the 59th minute, Alexander Soerensen found the back of the net for the second game in a row after he was assisted by Agustin Jaraba. The Averett (4-8-3) goal cut down Roanoke's lead to 3-1.
The Maroons added two additional goals in the second half to secure a win.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium for their Senior Day.
