ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Averett University Women's basketball team earned its first victory of the season against Mid-Atlantic Christian University 74-71 to close out play at the Jean Edge Classic on Saturday.
After trailing 47-38 at halftime, a 21 point fourth quarter helped Averett (1-2)Â complete the come back after trailing majority of the game to Mid-Atlantic Christian (1-3).Â
Freshman
Elisa Harris scored 18 points to go along with five steals, four assists and three rebounds for the Cougars. Junior
Talia Prosper recorded 15 points, while sophomore
Olivia Garner had 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Freshman
Rayanna Evans also chipped in 16 points for the Cougars. Freshman
Skylar Jones had a key charge with six seconds left in the fourth to give Averett possession and seal the win.
As a team Averett outperformed that Mustangs in three key areas. Averett totaled 56 rebounds while Mid-Atlantic Christian had 42, the Cougars handed out 13 assists compared to the Mustangs 11, Averett also had 17 steals while Mid-Atlantic Christian had 11.
Averett is back in action on tbe road Wednesday No. 12 against Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival, Ferrum College at 7 p.m.
