DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball team feasted on Meredith College in the Grant Center 64-44 on Tuesday night.
Averett (2-4, 0-2 ODAC) would only trail Meredith (1-3, 1-2 USA South) for one minute and 21 seconds in the entire game. Junior
Natija Pate's layup early in the first quarter would help the Cougars take the 3-2 lead over the Avenging Angels and never looked back. At one point the Cougars led by as much as 23 points.
Pate's double-double outing set two new career-highs as she led Averett in both points with 16 and rebounds with 16. Freshman
Taylor Ray also had herself a career-high night as she scored 10 points. Junior
Kalie Fleming recorded nine points and nine rebounds while junior
Talia Prosper tallied seven points and seven rebounds. The Cougars led for 93.3 percent of the game.
As a team, Averett outrebounded Meredith 59-34, making a new season-high in rebounds for the Cougars. Averett also shot a season-high 81.3 percent from the free throw line in the outing.
Averett is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 30, when it travels to Guildford College for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
