YORK, Pa. - Averett University wrestling had two champions in the York College New Standard Invitational, helping the Cougars clinch a third-place spot on Saturday night.

Averett had an impressive showing at the New Standard invitational, having seven wrestlers place in their individual weight classes. The Cougars had two sixth-place finishers, one fifth-place finisher, one in fourth-place, a third-place finisher, one in second, and two champions.

At 125 pounds, sophomore Mason Barrett landed second-place to wrap up the tournament. In the semifinals he defeated top-10 wrestler in the nation Ryan Rosenthal by a 4-3 decision. He battled hard in the finals, but lost to Joziah fry by decision,
who is ranked #6 in the nation.
 
Junior Kyle Sanders finished in sixth-place in the 133-pound weight class after earning a technical fall and an 8-1 decision along the way. In the semifinals, he lost in a hard-fought 7-5 decision against Harrison Gordon.

After losing in the quarterfinals, sophomore Hunter Campbell battled his way to fifth-place in the 141-pound weight class after he defeated Marquis Larmond by a commanding 11-3 major decision.

Senior Hai Siu clinched first place, going undefeated on the day. He defeated Elijah Sims in the semifinals and Matt Beyer in the finals, both by decision.

At 157 pounds, sophomore Jesse Alvarado was not taking any chances keeping his matches close. In the semifinals, he defeated Wenchard Pierre-Lewis by fall. In his first-place bout, he rag-dolled his opponent Jared Blair in a 15-4 major decision.

Freshman Nate Mallery placed fourth in the 174-pound weight class after going undefeated in the consolation bracket until the third-place bout. He recorded four decision wins in the tournament.

At 184 pounds, sophomore Khalil Mitchell went undefeated until the semifinals, recording two technical falls along the way, which landed him in third place.
The Cougars are back in action on Dec 11, at 9 a.m. when they host the Cougar Duals in the Grant Center.
