WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Averett University men's and women's indoor track & field teams made history in their inaugural meets at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off hosted Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
Averett's teams competed against several nationally ranked Division I and Division II programs at the meet.
"As a first year program it feels great to come away knowing that we belonged in the meet today," said
Matt Logan, Averett's director of cross country/track & field. "We had a presence on the track and in the field. We came away with some heat winners and a couple of top-10 results. I'll never forget today, and I'm sure our student-athletes won't either."
On the women's side, senior
Abby Wallace became the first Cougar ever to officially compete in an indoor track event. Wallace competed in the shot put, with her longest throw being 7.55 meters, which opened Averett's historical day with its two new programs.
