DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball program fell 72-49 against Southern Virginia University on Tuesday night inside the Grant Center.
Averett (4-14, 4-7 USA South) saw Southern Virginia (16-3, 12-0 USA South) sprint out to an early 12-0 lead. In the blink of an eye, Averett ended the first quarter up 14-12 matching the Knights run. Headed into the halftime break Southern Virginia led 28-26.
The third quarter of action proved to be the difference as the Knights outscored the Cougars 25-6.
The Cougars were led by senior
Camryn Lunsford, who tallied 14 points. Fellow senior
Genesis Weiters broke the all-time school record in blocks for the Cougars. Also, senior
Rana Davis-Robinson added 12 points while freshman,
Jaa Brown, totaled six points and a career-high in rebounds with eight.
Averett is back in action when it travels to Pfeiffer University on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m.
