DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team dropped its first contest of the season to the University of Lynchburg Saturday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium by the final score of 16-8.
Averett (0-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as freshman
Faith Bowlin began her college career off with a goal in her first minute of play. Bowlin ended the game with two goals and three ground balls while junior
Kelsey Steckroth added a goal which gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.Â

Elizabeth Peasley notched her first goal on the season in the second quarter of action and tallied a game-high four goals.Â

Lynchburg (1-0) used a four-goal second quarter to head into halftime tied 5-5 with the Cougars. They also tallied four goals in the third quarter to extend its lead 9-5.
Junior
Raven Felder also scored for the Cougars while sophomore goal keeper
Kaylee Joblon tallied 14 saves.

The Cougars return to action on Sunday Feb. 27 when it travels to Ferrum College at 6 p.m.
