CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Averett University men's tennis program earned a 7-0 victory over Division II Johnson C. Smith University on Sunday afternoon.
Averett (7-3) has now won four matches in a row.
The Cougars were able to complete a clean sweep in doubles play over the Johnson C. Smith (0-2) with the match being played at Division II regulations. Senior
Stan Martherus and freshman
Jay Trip earned a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore
Rufus Nurminen and junior
Evgeniy Bogdasaryan also won 6-0 as the sophomore duo of
Philipp Bohnenkamp and
Josh Bottrell won 6-4.
Bottrell, Bogdasaryan, Martherus and Bohnenkamp also picked up wins in singles action each in straight sets.
No. 1 and No. 2 singles were the tightest matches of the day as Nurminen won 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 1 singles and Trip picked up a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win.
The Cougars are back in action when they travel to Greensboro College on April 2, at 10 a.m.
