ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Averett University men's tennis lost to No. 12 N.C. Wesleyan 8-1 in USA South Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Averett (10-4, 4-1 USA South) picked up its lone point with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubled by junior

Shori Nishizoe. Although losses, the Cougars also had tight matches at No. 1 and No. 2, but N.C. Wesleyan (20-3, 6-0 USA South) earned an 8-5 win and 8-4 victory at those respective spots.
N.C. Wesleyan won all six singles matches, but the Cougars had multiple close battles. Senior
Stan Martherus and N.C. Wesleyan's Juan Vallejo had a tight match, with Vallejo getting a win 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). At No. 6 singles, the Bishops' Luca Knese edged freshman
Martinho Goncalves 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5).
