ANNANDALE, Va. — Averett University softball senior Hannah Thompson and sophomore Taylor Sullivan were selected to the 2022 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State College Division Second Team, which was announced on Tuesday.

Thompson was named to the VaSID Second Team at utility while Sullivan was named to the Second Team at pitcher.
 
Thompson, an infielder and pitcher from Pelham, North Carolina, earned all-state honors for the fourth consecutive season. She played in all 32 games in 2022, making 31 starts. Thompson batted .365 with 35 hits and a team-high eight doubles and five home runs. She also had 17 runs batted in and 22 runs scored. Thompson pitched in 15 games, making 14 starts in the circle with a 5-7 record and a 2.80 earned run average while striking out 53 in 85 innings pitched. Thompson was named to the USA South All-Conference East Division Second Team at utility and selected to the Academic All-District as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors with distinction and received the top senior female GPA award at Averett's Night of Champions.
 
Sullivan, a native of Timberlake, North Carolina, pitched in 19 games, making 15 starts in the circle with an 11-5 record, 2.28 earned run average and 100 strikeouts in 110.1 innings pitched. Sullivan handed eventual NCAA Division III national champion Christopher Newport its only loss of the season and also earned a win over USA South Conference East Division regular season champion Pfeiffer. Sullivan had four hits, which included two doubles and two triples at the plate. She was named the USA South Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 28 and was a co-recipient of Averett's sophomore female athlete of the year award at Night of Champions.
