BUENA VISTA, Va. — Averett University men's soccer scored in the final seven minutes to earn a 1-1 draw at Southern Virginia University on Thursday to open the season.
In the 84th minute, sophomore
Moises Garcia found the back of the net to tie the game. Averett (0-0-1) had four shot opportunities in the final four minutes, including three shots on goal. However, the game ended in a draw.
Tied 0-0 entering the 75th minute, Southern Virginia (0-0-1) scored on a goal from Tanner Gonder to put the Knights in front 1-0 before Averett eventually scored.
Averett outshot Southern Virginia 20-8.
Junior goalkeeper
Tyler Yates had six saves.
Averett returns to action on Saturday against Eastern Connecticut State University on a neutral field at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.
