DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's soccer lost 3-0 to No. 25 Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium as both teams opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
Averett (2-3-1, 0-1-0 ODAC) trailed the nationally ranked Marlins 1-0 at the half. Virginia Wesleyan (6-1-1, 1-0-0 ODAC) netted an unassisted goal by Shyenne Diaz in the seventh minute to put the Marlins on top.
Virginia Wesleyan added a Julia Marrone goal in the 52nd minute, and Diaz scored her second of the day off a pass from Alexis Miller in the 56th minute to extend the lead as the Marlins controlled possession for most of the contest.

Celia de Diego each had a pair of shots for Averett, which got three saves in goal from junior
Alyson Kinkopf.
Averett travels to face Mary Baldwin University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
