DANVILLE, Va.
— The Averett University women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against Methodist University in its home opener Sunday on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (1-0-1) started out hot when it netted the first goal of the match when sophomore
Celia de Diego sent a shot left of the Monarchs goalkeeper in the 20th minute of play.
In the 24th minute of play, junior
Jenna Franklin would send a shot from 20 yards out over the Methodist goalkeeper's head to find the back of the net, giving Averett the 2-0 lead over the Monarchs.
In the second half Methodist scored two unanswered goals to tie the match up at 2-2.
The Cougars outshot the Monarchs 16-12, while both teams had five shots on goal.
Averett is back in action this Thursday when it hosts Salem College at 7 p.m..
