FERRUM, Va. — Averett University wrestling defeated Ferrum College 26-16 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Thursday night.

The Cougars had one pin, one technical fall and five decisions in their dual against Ferrum.

At 125 pounds, sophomore Mason Barrett defeated Adrian Samano by an 8-2 decision, extending his undefeated dual record to 9-0.

Sophomore Daniel Porter kept the momentum in the Cougars' favor after winning by a 5-2 decision against Trent Proctor in the 133-pound weight class.

The 141-pound freshman Wyatt Parker earned the Cougars another decision win against Jonathan Ward.

Senior Hai Siu kept the win streak going with an impressive 19-4 technical fall against Hayden Funck in the 149-pound weight class.

At 157 pounds, sophomore Jesse Alvarado defeated Christian Hite by a 9-2 decision to extend his undefeated record to 21-0.

Graduate student Alex Turley got the first and only pin of the match for the Cougars at 2:27 against Michael Oliver in the 174-pound weight class.

At 184 pounds, sophomore Khalil Mitchell won by an 11-4 decision against Sam Slate.

The Cougars are back in action on Jan. 21 when they host Washington and Lee University at 6:30 p.m. and Southern Virginia University at 8 p.m. for their Alumni night.
