DANVILLE, VA — Averett University wrestling fell to Washington and Lee University 28-6, and defeated Southern Virginia 37-9 on Saturday night.

The Cougars dominated Southern Virginia (2-2, 1-2 ODAC) with five pins, a major decision, and one decision.

Against Washington and Lee (10-2, 4-1 ODAC) graduate student Alex Turley did not allow a single point scored against him in his 6-0 decision win against Jack Roszko.

Senior Hai Siu pulled away in the third period with a couple of takedowns to defeat Colin Bridges by a 9-4 decision in the 149-pound weight class.

Turley started off hot against Tyson Hoopes with a pair of four-point near falls in the first period. He finished what he started in the beginning of the second period with a pin at 3:36.

At 184 pounds, freshman Jacob Jiminez defeated Ikia Garcia by a tight 11-9 decision.

Heavyweight junior Jamar Christian was tossing around Igor Lakicevic, he had total control of the match, winning by a 10-2 major decision.

At 125 pounds, freshman Daniel Parkulo had a couple of four-point near falls in the first period against Francisco Ramirez. He followed through with a pin in the second period with 34 seconds left.

Sophomore Daniel Porter pinned Francisco Ramirez within the first two minutes of the match in the 133-pound weight class.

Siu pinned Elijah Blackwell after a swift takedown with 37 seconds remaining in the first period.

If spectators blinked, they could have missed sophomore Jesse Alvarado pinning Weston Hirschi in 24 seconds at 157 pounds.

The Cougars are back in action on Feb. 2 when they host Greensboro College for their senior day at 7 p.m.
