BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Averett University women's volleyball lost 3-1 at Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday night.
After Bridgewater (16-5, 7-2 ODAC) took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-17, Averett (11-8, 6-3 ODAC) fought back to win the third set 27-25. The Eagles, however, raced out to an early 16-3 advantage in Set 4. Yet, the Cougars clawed their way back into it and inched within 22-18, leading to a Bridgewater timeout. The Eagles won three of the next five points to escape with a 25-20 win to clinch the match.
Senior
Emma Nash led Averett with 14 kills, while senior
Destiny McIntosh had nine kills and four blocks and freshman
Sydney Mounce finished with eight kills for the Cougars, who got a team-high 17 digs from senior
Erin Gray. Sophomores
Dayton Moore and
Brenda Light had 18 assists and 15 assists, respectively.
Averett continues its road trip on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match at Washington and Lee University.
