DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University women's soccer downed Hollins University 10-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at home Wednesday and tying a program record along the way.
Averett (5-8-2, 2-5 ODAC) wasted no time attacking the Hollins (1-11, 0-8 ODAC) defense as the Cougars recorded their first shot on goal in the opening 30 seconds of the match. Averett scored its opening goal in the ninth minute of play when sophomore

Elena Barrett netted her first career goal just nine minutes later to put the Cougars up 2-0.

Asia Williams, Giving Averett a 4-0 lead headed into halftime.

Olivia Appelberg opened up the second half scoring in the 61st minute on a goal from de Diego. Appelberg netted her second goal of the night less than three minutes later in the 65th minute from Evans. In the 74th minute de Diego scored her fourth goal off the match unassisted. Senior
Maiju Hyvarinen found the back of the net for the Cougars in the 77th minute from de Diego.
In the 88th minute de Diego's penalty kick goal to put Averett up 10-0 tying the program record for points scored in a match with de Diego having 12 points and a new career-high.
Averett is back in action Saturday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite at 6 p.m.
