DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's soccer picked up a 2-1 win on Senior Day over Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday evening.
Eastern Mennonite (1-11-3, 0-6 ODAC) struck first in the 34th minute when the Royals' Leach Beachy sent a shot high over Averett (6-8-2, 3-5 ODAC) goalkeeper
Tiia Chrons head to take the early lead.
The Cougars maintained offensive possession for majority of the first half registering 11 shot with six of those being on goal, however none made it past the Royals goalkeeper.
In the 56th minute of the match
Celia de Diego fired a shot from well outside the 18-yard line, sending it past EMU's goalkeeper to tie the match at 1-1.
Averett's game-winning goal would come from none other than de Diego assisted by freshman
Leah Brethren in the 74th minute of play. Â
The Cougar defense proved to be key in the last 45 minutes as it only allowed two EMU shots.

Averett is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Roanoke College at 5 p.m.
