Kimbrough ties for second as No. 18 men's golf finishes third at Chick-fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. — Graduate student Caleb Kimbrough tied for second as No. 18 Averett University men's golf jumped up to a third-place finish Tuesday during the final round of the Chick-fil-A Invitational hosted by Berry College at Stonebridge Golf Club. The Cougars had three players finish inside the top 17.
 
Kimbrough shot a 1-under-par 71 on the par-72, 6,685-yard course during the final round to finish 4-under for the tournament to finish in a three-way tie for runner-up. Emory University's Josh Qian and Centre College's Jiles Wyatt also shot 4-under for the two-day tournament to finish three strokes behind medalist Chase Wells of Methodist University, who shot 7-under during the final round.

As a team, Averett jumped up from fifth to third after shooting 1-under during the final round. The Cougars finished with a collective score of 13-over, one stroke behind second-place Centre. Methodist's B Team shot 15-under on the final day to steal the team win at 6-over in the 20-team tournament.

In addition to Kimbrough's strong finish, freshman John Keba earned a tie for eighth place with a 1-over 73 on the final day to finish at 1-over for the tournament. Sophomore Max Pettersson also made a move on Day 2, jumping up 23 spots to a 17th-place finish. Petterson shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish at 5-over for the tournament.

Freshman Johnny Stewart improved his score by 11 strokes on Day 2 with a 1-over 73 to finish at 13-over for the event. Junior Killian O'Reilly also improved his score by four strokes to finish at 16-over through 36 holes.

The tournament marked the final action for the Averett men's golf team during the fall season.
