DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's volleyball fell to No. 7 Emory University, 3-1 and No. 22 University of Mary Washington 3-0 in its regular season home finale on Saturday.
Averett (13-14) and Emory (18-1) exchanged leads majority of the opening set. Sophomore Rachel Green hammered a kill, bringing the score to 22-20 in favor of the Eagles. Averett scored six-straight points to take the opening set 25-22 over top-10 Emory.
The Eagles rallied back in the next two sets, taking set 3 25-18 and set 3 25-12.
In the fourth, Averett and Emory exchanged leads much like the first set before the eagles pulled away with the 25-21 win.
Green had a team-high 11 kills in the match while senior Erin Gray had a team-high 25 digs in the match. Sophomore Dayton Moore handed out 15 assists in the outing.
Averett faced off against No. 22 University of Mary Washington in its afternoon match.
Mary Washington took the opening set 25-15.
In set 2 Averett and Mary Washington exchanged leads the entirety of the set before the Eagles used a four-point rally to take the set 25-21. The Cougars fell 25-15 in the final set of the day.
Green lead the offense with 12 kills, Gray had 21 digs and Moore had a team-high 17 assists in the match.
Averett is back in action on November 4th when it travels to the University of Mary Washington to face Centre College and No. 22 Mary Washington.
