Prosper scores 21 points in women's basketball's win over N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. - Averett University women's basketball picked up its first win of the season 62-55 over N.C. Wesleyan University on Saturday night.

Averett (1-1) found itself down by seven points to N.C. Wesleyan (0-1) as it entered the fourth quarter. Senior Talia Prosper's free throws with 8:12 left in the fourth brought the game to just one possession, junior Jaa Brown sank two free-throws brining the Cougars within one point. Another Prosper free throw tied the game up at 47 all. Prosper's layup with 6:49 left gave the Cougars their first lead since 5:49 in the third quarter. Averett held on to win by seven. 

Prosper highlighted the Cougars offense with a team-high 21 points, nine rebounds and three steals, marking a new career-high for the senior. Sophomore Elisa Harris and redshirt-freshman Amore Kirkland scored nine and six points. Harris also pulled down seven rebounds. As a team, the Cougars pulled down 37 rebounds while the Bishops brought down 38. Averett shot 35.7 percent from the three-point range.

Averett is back in action when it faces Methodist University at 5 p.m. on Day 2 of the Jean Edge Classic hosted by N.C. Wesleyan.
