WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Averett University men's wrestling had 10 wrestlers go undefeated in round-robin action at the Lycoming College Invitational on Sunday.

Averett, which took a split squad to two separate events on Sunday, had nine guys go 3-0 and another go 2-0 at Lycoming. That included senior 197-pounder Jamar Christian knocking off Lycoming's All-American Gable Crebs, who is ranked No. 9 in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The Lycoming Invitational had split divisions with a freshman/sophomore division and junior/senior division at each of the 10 weight classes. No team scores were tallied.

Christian opened his day wit a 1-0 decision over Crebs in the Junior/Senior 197 division. He then defeated Brandon Thomas by medical forfeit and earned a 16-1 tech fall win over Cortland State's Chris Bold.

Junior Mason Barrett, ranked No. 5 in the nation by NWCA and d3wrestle, also went 3-0 at the Junior/Senior 125-pound division. Barrett, a reigning All-American, defeated Lycoming's Brayden Newman and Oneonta State's Giovanni Russo by fall, then earned a 4-3 decision over Lycoming's Kaden Majcher.

Junior Anthony Taylor, ranked No. 4 in the region by NWCA and as an honorable mention nationally by d3wrestle, picked up a pair victories by tech fall over Lycoming's Hunter Charles and Oneonta State's Adonis Morano, then pinned Otterbein College's Jacob Williams in the Junior/Senior 165-pound division.

"Jamar Christian stepped up in a big way by beating a returning All-American," Averett head coach Blake Roulo said. "Overall, I thought we performed at a high level throughout the entire lineup. The three-point takedown rule change this year definitely helps our team."

Freshman Matthew Eberly, competing in the Freshman/Sophomore 133-pound class, earned two wins by fall and one by major decision. Sophomore Xavier Swanson bookended a pair of pins around a win by medical forfeit to go 3-0 in the Freshman/Sophomore 157-pound division. Sophomore Jacob Jiminez won by fall, then picked up a pair of victories by decision to go 3-0 in the Freshman/Sophomore 184A division, while freshman heavyweight Malique Tunstall dominated with a pair of pins and a 19-3 tech fall in the Freshman/Sophomore 285-pound class.

The strong effort by the Cougars continued with senior Olli Karjalainen's 15-0 tech fall win and two pins in the Junior/Seinor 133-pound class. Senior transfer Maurcio Reyes also earned a 3-0 record for the day in the Junior/Senior 141-pound division by fall, major decision and a 7-1 decision. Averett junior Khalil Mitchell only wrestled twice because of a small field in the Junior/Senior 174-pound division, but he dominated with a win by 17-1 tech fall and by pin.

Other members of Averett's wrestling team competed at the James Madison University Invitational on Sunday. The Cougars as a team return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11, with a home dual against Division I Queens University of Charlotte followed by a dual with Marymount University later that evening before hosting the annual Cougar Open on Sunday, Nov. 12.

"I'm excited to watch the film and get to work right away in preparation for Queens and Marymount," Roulo said.
