DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University women's basketball fell to Shenandoah University on Saturday 76-49.
Shenandoah (6-2, 5-0 ODAC) opened the game on a 15-0 scoring run over Averett (1-8, 0-3 ODAC) in the first four-plus minutes of play. The Cougars broke Shenadoah's run from freshman
Sania Johnson's free-throw. Sophomore
Skylar Jones' layup 15 seconds later gave the Averett its first field goal of the game. The Cougars went into half time trailing 36-18. Shenandoah's high powered offense continued to extend its lead in the second half as the Hornets scored 40 points while Averett posted 31.
Senior
Talia Prosper scored 10 points in the outing while pulling down three reboounds to lead the Cougars offense. Redshirt freshman
Amore Kirkland and sophomore
Taylor Ray each had a second-best seven points while Kirkland knocked down two three-pointers. Freshman
Jenkens Ervin and sophomores
Brianna Sams and
Skylar Jones each had a team-high four rebounds.
Averett is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite University at 1 p.m.
