RALEIGH, N.C. - Averett University women's basketball topped Meredith College 57-52 on the road Thursday.
Averett (4-9, 2-4 ODAC) trailed Meredith (1-8, 2-4 ODAC) by nine points headed into halftime. The Avenging Angels scored 17 points to overcome the Cougars' 12-10 first quarter lead.
Averett responded in the third quarter, erupting for 24 points while holding Meredith to just five points to take a 42-32 lead into the last 10 minutes of play. The Cougars fended off Meredith's 20-point fourth quarter comeback by scoring 15-points of their own. With the game tied up at 46-46 with just over three minutes left, Averett scored six unanswered points giving it the offensive push it needed to hang on for a 57-52 win.

Talia Prosper double-double propelled the Cougars to their win with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the outing. Fellow senior
Natija Pate had a second-best 12 points and seven rebounds. Redshirt-freshman
Carmen Moore brought down a career-high nine rebounds. Three other Cougars scored six points each.
Averett is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. when it travels to DI North Carolina A&T.
