DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University men's tennis opened up its home slate on Thursday with a tough 7-2 loss to No. 26 Mary Washington.
Averett (1-1, 1-0 ODAC) took two of the three doubles points from the No. 26 University of Mary Washington (5-3, 1-0 C2C) in a comeback fashion.
In two electric doubles showdowns, junior

Martinho Goncalves 8-5 comeback win over Artis Hart and Peter Leese put the Cougars on the board with its first point. Moment's later senior

Shori Nishizoe came back to take down Brock Ladehoff and Andrew Watson 8-6, to put Averett up 2-1.
At No. 3 doubles,Mary Washington's Rishi Charan Shankar and Andrew Campbell topped the freshmen duo of
Kazuki Fukushima and
Theodor Garmo 8-3.
Mary Washington mounted a comeback throughout singles play, and clinched the match with No. 6 Jacob Pfab's 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over freshman
Prabjeet Chandhok to win the match 7-2 overall.
Averett is back in action on Friday when it travels to Roanoke College at 3 p.m.
