AMHURST, Va. – Averett University women's tennis team defeated Birmingham-Southern College 9-0 on Monday for the team's fourth consecutive 9-0 win.
Averett (5-0, 3-0 ODAC) took all three doubles points from Birmingham-Southern (5-5, 0-0 SAA).
Senior Alejandra Garcia and junior Paula Ryhsen teamed up at No. 1 doubles to take down Izzy Lambert and Anna Marie Bentley 8-7(8-6) in tiebreak.
Sisters freshman Brenda Poulakidas and junior Daniela Poulakidas defeated Anna Cate Weeks and Anna Beth Giles 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
The No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles points were won by Averett because Birmingham-Southern had only five players for the match.
At No. 1 singles, Ryhsen defeated Lambert 6-1, 6-3.
Brenda Poulakidas took down Bentley 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Garcia defeated Weeks 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 in the No. 3 slot.
Freshman Amelie Brune, who finished singles first won 6-1. 6-2 over Giles at No. 4.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Elisa Battermann defeated Meg Griffin 6-4, 6-2.
Averett is back in action when it travels to D-II Winston Salem State University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
